It’s been about 3 months since I was in the Outer Banks and I can’t get it off my mind. Even though it was cold, and there was snow on the ground last week, I would love some fresh beach air.

Beaches, Sand, and Cold Hands
I think most people hate the feeling of trying to get sand off of wet skin. My daughter is 3 and learning all of these things for the first time and let me tell you, she was not a fan of the cold air, freezing water, and rough sand on her skin in the early December weather of the Outer Banks. Right now, I can't think of anything better because 56 degrees with a slight ocean breeze sounds a lot better than the 28 degrees mornings I'm experiencing in Utah right now.
We typically stay around Kill Devil Hills because it feels very central to some of the best things about the Outer Banks. The best part about Kill Devil Hills is the beaches stay consistent year round. You may have seen some stories on the news about homes falling into the ocean in Rodanthe. If you have time, it's pretty crazy and sad to see these homes that are right on and falling into the ocean. Kill Devil Hills doesn't have that issue though, because they do beach nourishment every year, meaning they put sand back on the beach to keep the Outer Banks from falling into the ocean. There's also so much space down the ocean front in Kill Devil Hills which makes it easy to find some space.
I still haven't tested out all the beaches that exist and I'm looking forward to more. I don't necessarily recommend going in the dead of winter (your kids might complain they couldn't go in the water) but if you do, it is still one incredible vacation and time to relax. Wherever you are, you need to make your next trip a warm beach side day out to the Outer Banks.

Stack’em, Eat’em, Enjoy’em
My favorite breakfast place in the Outer Banks has to be Stack’em High Pancakes and So Forth. The first time we visited we went in and realized why it was so popular. From their grain bowl to their pancakes, everything on the menu stands out. Their granola is some of the best I have ever had and you can buy it in bags.
The other great apart is the owners and staff. They make you feel like a million bucks and that you are really apart of the family as you order, and as you eat. They have coloring books in the corner for the kids to draw as you wait for you food, and cute quotes and pictures hung all over the store to keep you engaged. This place is a must when they open back up!
